"Chappie" is the director's next film "District 9" and "Elysium". In its previous productions Neill Blomkamp perfectly combine fast-paced action with social issues, which made the audience accepted it with great interest. And this time the director invites us to imagine an alternative world. In the near future, crime is controlled by the oppressive, mechanized police forces. They cause extremely negative reactions from the people, because they can not be in any way to convince to their case, there is no room for negotiation, or change the way of thinking. The whole city is controlled by the police soulless androids.
But when one of them, named Chappie, is stolen and reprogrammed, becomes the first robot that has the ability of independent thinking and feeling. For some, like Vincent Moore (Hugh Jackman), it's pretty dangerous idea. Thinking robot is still a threat to the human race, which may soon be supplanted by reasoning alone machine. Others, like his creator Deon Wilson (Dev Patel), see Chappiego as a talented, unique creation of human qualities, in many ways much more ethical and empathetic than any representative of the human race. For them, it is the last ray of hope for saving mankind, even if he is only thinking machine.
The clash of these two completely different views make Chappie will have to face the powerful, destructive forces, which depend on the fact that he was the last of his species.
