Directed by Academy Award winner Kevin Macdonald ("The Last King of Scotland", "Waiting for Joe") and produced by Academy Award winner Simon Chinn ("Sugar Man"), a moving documentary about the memory of pop and R & B - Whitney Houston. "The Guardian", and at the same intimate and strikingly honest movie portrait, giving a unique look at life, a dizzying career and a slow fall, endowed with the unprecedented talent of the star. Filled with the memories of the artist's relatives, unpublished films and music, which has already gained the status of immortality.
With an impressive number of over 200 million albums sold around the world, with the status of the first female artist who made her debut on the Billboard 200 list and the only one in history that seven new singles appeared in the first place in the Billboard Hot 100, Whitney Houston was the voice of her generations. An artist who was supposed to become the queen of the world scene from the gospel singer. It was she who inspired a whole generation of female sisters with Mariah Carey and Beyonce at the forefront. It was her daring performance of the American national anthem during the Super Bowl in 1991 that brushed paths previously unavailable to black musicians. In the background, however, another story was written to these memorable events. A shocking tale of addiction and self-destruction, filling columns of tabloid newspapers and magazines. The story of a woman who had the voice of an angel on stage, but lost her fight with her own demons.
"Whitney" is the only production of this type that received full consent and support of the singer's family and heirs. The film will use unreleased footage, rarely or never shown footage, as well as concert recordings made by Whitney Houston herself in various periods of her career. Viewers will hear the original and acapella versions of Whitney Houston's biggest hits. All this is supported by rich materials from the collections of Whitney's close family and friends, documenting her stormy, private life.
