"Kamerdyner" is a story about the tangled lives of Poles, Kashubians and Germans against the background of turbulent events of the first half of the 20th century, told with epic panache.
Mateusz Krol (Sebastian Fabijański), a Kashubian boy, after the death of his mother, is taken in by the Prussian aristocrat Gerda von Krauss (Anna Radwan). He grows up in the palace. Matthew's matron is the daughter of von Kraussów Marita (Marianna Zydek). Love is born between the young.
The boy's godfather is Kashubian patriot Bazyli Miotke (Janusz Gajos) who during the peace conference in Versailles fights for the place of Kashubia on the map of Poland, and then builds the symbol of its economic success: Gdynia.
The Treaty of Versailles, which gives Poland independence, makes von Krauss lose their assets and influence. All heroes feel that the world they knew soon will change dramatically. Among the Kashubians, Poles and Germans living side by side, reluctance and hatred are growing. World War II breaks out. In Nazi Forests, the Nazis murder the civilian population - the first genocide of this war.
