Paolo Sorrentino returns to cinemas with the comedy-drama "Oni" after a few-year break. The director of the award-winning "Great Beauty" (Oscar, Golden Globe and BAFTA for Best Foreign Language Film), "Youth" and the "Young Pope" series again serves an explosive mixture of provocation and seduction. Playing with the biography of former Italian Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi - millionaire and media mogul - Sorrentino talks about corruption, corruption and the age-old marriage of sex and power. And, above all, about the "court" of greedy sycophytes, which one of the most discredited modern politicians bred around himself. Behind each Berlusconi, Orbán and Trump, there are some "them" who benefit from populist slogans, the crisis of democracy and media manipulation.
However, in the movie "They" Sorrentino brilliantly combines predatory political satire with an intimate drama, and indeed baroque visual chaos, which seems to parody Berlusconi's television style, is accompanied by surprisingly intimate scenes. The British Guardian even noticed tenderness in the way an Italian director portrays the "weakness of an aging man." The grotesque with nostalgia bravado reconciled on the screen beloved actor Sorrentino, known for "Great beauty" and "Divine" Toni Servillo. His spectacular metamorphosis is one of the greatest assets of the movie "Oni", which was watched by millions of viewers in Italy alone.
They are in power. They are cynical, immoral and greedy. They want to worship. They are Silvio Berlusconi, his entourage and careerist orbiting them, ready to do anything for money and political glory. They want to seduce the crowds. In a world where youth and sex are the most valuable currency, they are second to none.
