The film is set in the near future where alien race known as mimics (Mimics), launched an unrelenting attack on Earth and reigned like a bee hive, turning entire cities into disrepair and leaving behind millions of human lives. No army in the world can match the speed, ferocity and seeming ability to predict the future, armed to the teeth warriors from outer space, as well as their commanders who give orders telepathically. However, the time has come when armies around the world have joined forces to stand up to the decisive battle to the death against attackers from outer space.
Lieutenant Colonel Bill Cage (Cruise), a soldier who has never found himself in the heat of battle, is unceremoniously demoted and thrown - without proper training and equipment - in the middle, as it later turns out, something more than just a suicide mission. Cage is killed on his first mission, killing one foreign male Alpha. However, coincidentally, comes to life on the morning of his death and is forced to fight and die ... without end.
Direct physical contact with an alien meant that Cage found himself in a time loop and was sentenced to experiencing the same brutal struggle from time to time. However, with each back Cage becomes stronger, smarter and is able to more effectively resist the newcomers from space. It is accompanied by the Special Forces fighter, Rita Vrataski (Blunt), who made the greatest havoc in foreign branches of all the fighting on Earth. When Cage and Rita decide to take up the fight with aliens, each lived from new battle becomes another opportunity to find a way to annihilate the invaders from outer space and save Earth.
