Four outsiders notices something you do not see nobody - neither big banks nor the media nor the government - the threat of progressing with remarkable speed of the collapse of the world economy. They have an idea. The Big Short. Risky investments bring them to the sensitive point of contemporary banking, based on vague principles. The title "Short" is in the form of banking speculation. Owner asset gains when it loses value; believing that the investment price is too high, gaining its correction.
The screenplay is based on the bestselling book by Michael Lewis ("Big Mike. The Blind Side," "Moneyball"). And directed by Adam McKay ("Anchorman," "Step Brothers"). Starring see Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt.
 
In 2005 a huge fan of heavy metal and at the same time eccentric manager from San Jose, Michael Burry (Christian Bale) is studying hundreds of individual, highly-rated applications for loans and mortgages, which leads him to alarming conclusions - the market overloaded with the overhang installments of loans, which over several years must lead to the collapse of the system. While Wall Street analysts seem to ignore this ticking time bomb, Burry invents a security tool in the event of non-compliance with the terms of the loan agreement, known as "credit default swaps" (CDS; contract in which one party pays the other a certain sum, and this in return undertakes to cover the debt, the debtor fails to meet the credit agreement. If the risk is greater, increasing the price CDSu), which would put an end to the boom in the housing market. Naturally, the owners of the housing market react in horror.
The young stockbroker on Wall Street, Jared Vennett (Ryan Gosling), catching the wind in its sails, immediately turns to the idea Burry'ego, what more trying to convince a multi-million dollar investments fully temperamental manager Mark Baum (Steve Carell). But they need help to be among sharks finance. Almost miraculously they manage to enlist veteran Ben exchange Rickert (Brad Pitt), who helps them in the project. A project that has to outsmart Wall Street.
When, in 2008, the market eventually will plunge into chaos, they earn millions of dollars, but this experience will change them forever. While the large financial institutions whose carelessness led to the global crisis, fared better or worse, millions of Americans lost their homes, possessions, jobs, savings and still suffer the consequences of financial disaster.
